Fall 2011 Class Schedule & Tuition

There will be a new schedule posted for summer 2012 soon.  The classes listed below will run through the end of May 2012.  All classes meet once a week.  Tuition listed is due once a month, on your student's first class of the month.  Classes run 9 months, September 2011 through the end of May 2012, however students are welcome to take class on a month by month basis.  Registration Fees and Family/Multiple Class Discounts are listed at the bottom of this page.  Keep scrolling down.
Minumum Enrollment:  5 per class  (A class may be canceled if less than 5 enroll.)
Maximum Enrollment:  12 per class

Ballet/Creative Movement (3-5 years)  Designed to teach pre-school aged children fundamental dance concepts.  They will learn basic ballet steps and terminology as well as a wide range of fun and explorative creative movement that will lay a strong foundation for future development.  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time and the Recital. 
Wednesdays 4:15-5:00pm (45 minutes, $34)

PreSchool Tap/Ballet (3-6years)  New this year!  Designed to teach pre-school and kindergarden children fundamental dance concepts.  They will learn basic ballet steps and terminology.  Tap instruction will include learning to make sounds with the taps in a controlled, rhythmic way.  This class will be fun for boys and girls!  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time and the Recital.
Tuesdays 5:30pm-6:15 (45 minutes, $34)

Tumbling (5-9 years) "Tumbling" is the floor work part of gymnastics.  Students are working toward mastering skills such as front & back rolls, handstands, cartwheels, roundoffs, bridges, backbends, handsprings, and walkovers depending on age and level. Each student is given instruction based on their individual progress, skills, and needs.  All classes are non-competitive.  Designed build strength, increase flexibility and coordination, and to be fun! Will perform one number at the Recital.
Saturdays 10:30-11:15am  Tumbling A, 5-9 years  (45 minutes, $34)

Ballet/Jazz/Modern I (Ages:  5-7 years)  Designed to teach primary school age children the core concepts of these different forms of dance.  Correct technique will be emphasized and proper ballet terminology will be used.  The jazz portion of class will include instructions in funky,  dynamic, high energy dance.  Modern dance favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.  We will explore improvisation which is spontaneously creating dance on the spot.  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time and two dances at the Recital.
Mondays 5:25-6:25pm  (60 minutes, $38)
Thursdays 4:00-5:00pm  (60 minutes, $38)

Hip-Hop Fusion (Level I/II Ages:  5-10 years, Level III Ages:  9 years & up)   A fusion of funky jazz and street dancing hip-hop much like you see on movies like "High School Musical" and in music videos.  Class will begin with a center floor warm-up including isolations, kicks, jumps, strengthening and stretching exercises.  It will proceed with locomotor skills  including leaps and turns.  The last segment of class will be dynamic combinations and routines to upbeat and clean music.  All movement will be decent and appropriate for people of all ages.  Emphasis will be placed on musicality, body control, and working together as a team.  Lots of fun!  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time and the Recital.

Tuesdays 7:10-7:55pm Level III
(45 minutes, $34)

Lyrical Technique (Adults Only--All Shapes, Sizes & Fitness Levels Welcome)  Lyrical dance is telling a story using the body and dance movement as communication tools.  A strong technical ballet foundation is needed, therefore each class will begin with classical ballet exercises and will continue with combinations of movement designed to develop the strength, poise, & emotion needed for lyrical dance.  No experience necessary.   Will perform one dance at the Recital. 
Wednesdays 10:00-11:00am  (60 minutes, $38)

Jazz/Tap II (Ages:  6-10 years)  New this year.  The jazz portion of class will include instruction in funky,  dynamic, high energy dance including isolations, turns, jumps and leaps.  The tap portion of class will teach traditional and fun tap techniques and steps.  If you love rhythm, pizzazz and making noise, this class is for you!
Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm  (60 minutes, $38)

Jazz/Lyrical III (Ages:  9 & up)  New this year!  If you love ballet and expressing your emotions, this class is for you!   Both Jazz and Lyrical are dance forms which incorporate the strong movement, balance and control from Ballet, but in a more stylized form.  Jazz tends to be very funky and upbeat, while Lyrical tends to be smooth and flowing, yet very strong.  Lyrical dance uses the lyrics from a song as the basis for movement, many times conveying the meaning of the song through the body.  Class will begin with center floor warm-up including isolations, strengthening and stretching exercises, and proceed with across the floor sequences involving jumps, turns, and leaps.  This class will perform one dance at Tulip Time and the Recital.
Thursdays 5:35-6:35  (60 minutes, $38)

Classical Ballet Technique (Level II Ages: 6-10yrs,  Level 2.5 Ages: 8 & up,  Level III Ages:  9 & up) Class will begin with classical ballet barre exercises that emphasize proper technique and execution of primary ballet positions and movements.  Proper terminology will be used. Center floor combinations will teach petite allegro, adagio, body placement, balance, and turns.  We will proceed with across the floor skills and combinations including grand allegro. Turns, leaps, and jumps will be practiced each week.  Poise, gracefulness, and posture will be refined. Level III is a prerequisite for advancing to pointe work and will include many exercises designed to strengthen the muscles in the feet, legs and core.  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time, and the Recital.
Mondays Level II  4:15-5:15pm (60 minutes, $38)
Fridays Level 2.5  4:15-5:15pm (60 minutes, $38)  NEW CLASS AS OF NOVEMBER 2011!
Mondays Level III 6:25-7:55pm
(90 minutes, $45) with instructor approval

Classical Ballet Technique including Pointe Work or Pre-Pointe Level IV (Ages:  10 & up)  This class is for dancers with several years of ballet experience who have mastered an intermediate level and are progressing well in their technique.  Class will begin with classical ballet barre exercises that will build muscle strength in the core, legs, and feet as well as building endurance and mental alertness.  We will practice center floor combinations including adagio, petite allegro, grand allegro, and turns.  Across the floor combinations will include leaps, turns, jumps, and waltz.   Instructor approval is needed for enrollement in this class.  Will perform one dance at Tulip Time and the Recital.
Thursdays 6:45-8:15pm   (90 minutes, $45)
 
Discovery Dance Ensemble (Junior Ensemble Ages:  8-13 years, Senior Ensemble Ages:  12+)  Enrollment by audition only.  Each member must be enrolled in a Ballet Technique class and one other class at Discovery Dance.  (Exceptions may be made for Boys).  Membership is a privilege extended to hardworking dance students who are serious about improving their skills and willing to put forth extra effort without complaining.  This will allow them to refine their technique and work at perfecting their performance.  We will study Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical throughout the year.  This group will also have additional performance opportunities. Attendance & attitude are of utmost importance.  Membership is offered at a greatly reduced fee, compared to a regular 90 minute class, to make it more affordable for enthusiastic dance students to improve their technique and versatility.  Auditions are held in mid-October.  Various performance opportunities including the Goose Festival, Tulip Time, the Recital and more.  This is a great opportunity for any dancer who is serious about making progress and perfecting their technique!  We will be performing a special story show, "The Rainbow Fish", at the spring recital and several other venues.   
Wednesdays 5:10-6:40 or 6:40-8:10 depending on rehearsal schedule. 
(90 minutes, $30, Ensemble membership will be eligible for multiple class and family discounts this school year)

Private and Semi Private Classes (Any Age)  These classes are designed to give one on one attention to one student or a small group with the purpose of teaching a solo, duet or trio routine for dance competitions, talent shows, pageants, or to perform at the end of the year recital.  Dance style and music are the choice of the student, but it must have instructor approval as well.  Saturday private class available for Tumbling instruction with Miss Alisha.

Fees and Discounts

Registration Fee:  $15 New Students,  $10 Returning Students.   Includes Discovery Dance T-Shirt.

Late Tuition Fee:  If monthly tuition is not received by your student's 2nd scheduled class of each month, a $5 late fee will be added.  A $5 fee will be added each week for every week tuition is late, unless prior arrangements are made with Miss Claudette or the front desk staff.

Returned Check Fee:  $20

Referal Discount:  If a current Discovery Dance family tells another family about our program and they enroll, the current family will receive our sincere gratitude and $20 off one month's tuition.  (Make sure you let us know that you referred them.)

Family and Multiple Class Discounts:  Discounts apply to all weekly classes that members of the same household are enrolled in.  (Discounts also apply to Ensemble Membership this school year.)

Pre-Pay Note:  If the student discontinues class during the year, full  price will be charged for each month until written notice is given, then the remaining tuition will be refunded.
