Our Classes and Schedule for the 2010-2011 School Year

All classes meet once a week.  The tuition listed is due the first class of each month.  Registration Fees and Family/Multiple Class Discounts are listed at the bottom of this page.

Motor Movement/Tumbling (18 months - 3 years)
  Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.  Age appropriate & fun activities designed to get little bodies moving while increasing flexibility, strength, & coordination.  Toddlers delight in songs & games while learning to follow directions and get along with other children near their same age while engaging in organized group activities. 
Saturdays 9:30-10:15am  (45 minutes, $33 )

Motor Movement/Tumbling (3-5 years)  Pre-school aged children attend this class independently.  They begin to work at mastering skills such as front and back rolls, cartwheels and bridges.  This class also includes fun, age appropriate activities to increase flexibility and build strength and coordination.  Will perform one number at the Goose Festival and the Recital.
Fridays 4:15-5:00pm  (45 minutes, $33)

Ballet/Creative Movement (3-5 years)  Designed to teach pre-school aged children fundamental dance concepts.  They will learn basic ballet steps and terminology as well as a wide range of fun and explorative creative movement that will lay a strong foundation for future development.  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time and the Recital. 
Tuesdays 5:30-6:15pm  &  Wednesdays 11:00-11:45am  (45 minutes, $33)

Tumbling (5-8 years Girls Only, 8-12 years, and 5-9 years Boys Only) "Tumbling" is the floor work part of gymnastics.  Students are working toward mastering skills such as front & back rolls, handstands, cartwheels, roundoffs, bridges, backbends, handsprings, and walkovers depending on age and level. All classes are non-competitive.  Designed build strength, increase flexibility and coordination, and to be fun! Will perform one number at the Goose Festival and the Recital.
All on Fridays   5-8yr Girls Only 5:00-5:45pm;   8-12yr Boys & Girls 5:45-6:30pm;   5-9yr Boys Only 6:30-7:15pm (45 minutes, $33)

Ballet/Jazz/Modern I (Ages:  5-7 years)  Designed to teach primary school age children the core concepts of these different forms of dance.  Correct technique will be emphasized and proper ballet terminology will be used.  The jazz portion of class will include instructions in funky,  dynamic, high energy dance.  Modern dance favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.  We will explore improvisation which is spontaneously creating dance on the spot.  Will perform one dance the Goose Festival and Tulip Time; and two dances at the Recital.
Mondays 5:45-6:45pm  &   Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm  (60 minutes, $37)

Tap Technique (Level I Ages:  5-9 years, Level II Ages:  8 & up This class will include a warm-up and exercises to teach traditional and fun tap techniques and steps.  If you love rhythm and making noise, this class is for you!   Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time and the Recital. 
Level I Thursdays 5:45-6:30pm;   Level II Thursdays 6:30-7:15pm  (45 minutes, $33)

Boys High Energy Dance with Sam (Boys Only.  Ages: 7-14 years)  As the name  implies.  Class will begin with a center floor strength building and flexibility increasing warm-up.  Dynamic movement combinations and explosive jumps and leaps will be practiced each week.  (No actual explosive materials will be used in class.)  Rock on!  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time, and the Recital.
Tuesdays 6:15-7:00pm (45 minutes, $33)

Hip-Hop Fusion (Level I Ages:  5-7 years, Level II Ages:  7-10 years, Level III Ages: 8 years & up)   A fusion of funky jazz and street dancing hip-hop much like you see on movies like "High School Musical" and in music videos.  Class will begin with a center floor warm-up including isolations, kicks, jumps, strengthening and stretching exercises.  It will proceed with locomotor skills  including leaps and turns.  The last segment of class will be dynamic combinations and routines to upbeat and clean music.  All movement will be decent and appropriate for people of all ages.  Emphasis will be placed on musicality, body control, and working together as a team.  Lots of fun!  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time and the Recital.
Level I Mondays 6:45-7:30pm;  Level II Thursdays 7:15-8:00pm;  Level III Wednesdays 7:15-8:00pm
(45 minutes, $33)

Lyrical Technique (Ages:  8 & up)  Lyrical dance is telling a story using the body and dance movement as communication tools.  A strong technical ballet foundation is needed, therefore each class will begin with classical ballet exercises and will continue with combinations of movement designed to develop the strength, poise, & emotion needed for lyrical dance.  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time, and the Recital.
Tuesdays 3:30-4:30pm (60 minutes, $37)

Classical Ballet Technique (Level II Ages: 7-10yrs, Level III Ages:  8 & up) Class will begin with classical ballet barre exercises that emphasize proper technique and execution of primary ballet positions and movements.  Proper terminology will be used. Center floor combinations will teach petite allegro, adagio, body placement, balance, and turns.  We will proceed with across the floor skills and combinations including grand allegro. Turns, leaps, and jumps will be practiced each week.  Poise, gracefulness, and posture will be refined. Level III is a prerequisite for advancing to pointe work and will include many exercises designed to strenghten the muscles in the feet, legs and core.  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time, and the Recital.
Level II Mondays 4:15-5:45pm;  Level III Wednesdays 4:15-5:45pm   (90 minutes, $45)

Classical Ballet Technique including Pointe Work Level IV (Ages:  12 & up)  Pointe shoes may be worn for this class.  This class is for dancers with several years of ballet experience who have mastered an intermediate level and are progressing well in their technique.  Class will begin with classical ballet barre exercises that will build muscle strength in the core, legs, and feet as well as building endurance and mental alertness.  We will practice center floor combinations including adagio, petite allegro, grand allegro, and turns.  Across the floor combinations will include leaps, turns, jumps, and waltz.  The recital dance will be performed on pointe.  Instructor approval is needed for enrollement in this class.  Will perform one dance at the Goose Festival, Tulip Time and the Recital.
Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm  (90 minutes, $45)
 
Discovery Dance Ensemble (Junior Ensemble Ages:  8-13 years, Senior Ensemble Ages:  12+)  Enrollment by audition only.  Each member must be enrolled in a Ballet Technique class and one other class at Discovery Dance.  (Exceptions may be made for Boys).  Membership is a privilege extended to hardworking dance students who are serious about improving their skills and willing to put forth extra effort without complaining.  This will allow them to refine their technique and work at perfecting their performance.  We will study Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical throughout the year.  This group will also have additional performance opportunities.  (If we form a competition team, only ensemble members will be considered for participation.) Attendance & attitude are of utmost importance.  Membership is offered at a greatly reduced fee, compared to a regular 90 minute class, to make it more affordable for enthusiastic dance students to improve their technique and versatility.  Auditions will be held after the Goose Festival in October.  Various performance opportunities including Tulip Time, the Recital and more. 
Junior Ensemble Wednesdays 5:45-7:15pm;  Senior Ensemble Thursdays 4:15-5:45pm 
(90 minutes, $30, Ensemble membership will be eligible for multiple class and family discounts this school year)

Private and Semi Private Classes (Any Age)  These classes are designed to give one on one attention to one student or a small group with the purpose of teaching a solo, duet or trio routine for dance competitions, talent shows, pageants, or to perform at the end of the year recital.  Dance style and music are the choice of the student, but it must have instructor approval as well.

Registration Fee:  $15 New Students,  $10 Returning Students.   Includes Discovery Dance T-Shirt.
Late Tuition Fee:  If monthly tuition is not received by the 2nd class of each month, a $5 late fee will be added.
Returned Check Fee:  $15

Referral Discount:  If a current Discovery Dance family tells another family about our program and they enroll, the current family will receive our sincere gratitude and $20 off one month's tuition.  (Make sure you let us know that you referred them.)

Family and Multiple Class Discounts:  Discounts apply to all weekly classes that members of the same household are enrolled in.  (Discounts also apply to Ensemble Membership this school year.)
